    The Dryer the Better...

I have told you all before that laundry is my least favorite chore. Well, of course, after a two week run on the ole Campaign Trail, there is plenty of laundry that needs to get done…

Now my laundry equipment is not the newest. It’s probably about 3 years old. I have no problems with it, it works fine. I just don’t understand exactly how it’s supposed to all work apparently. I have figured out enough about it to get the laundry clean and dry. But I think I am ready to move on to the next level. I want to understand every setting and know how to do laundry like a pro…

The first setting I want to understand is a dryer setting. It is the part of the dial that says “More Dry” & “Less Dry”.

As a rule I prefer my clothes to be completely dry when they are done in the dryer. It is, after all, called a “dryer”. If ‘drying’ is not what it does, shouldn’t it be called a ‘warmer’ or an ‘almost dryer’. I have spent the better part of the day trying to think of a circumstance when it would be OK for my boxers to still be a little damp. For the life of me, I can’t come up with one.

Perhaps my problem is within the terminology itself. Once something is Dry, how could it then become MORE dry? And if it is Less Dry wouldn’t that still be wet? At the point of Dry, for something to become More dry would cause it to start getting “a Little Burnt” wouldn’t it? Or at least ‘Over Dry’? Are clothes not the same as meatloaf? I have had meatloaf that I would consider ‘More Dry’ and I have had meatloaf that I would consider ‘a little burnt’. But I am relatively sure that I shouldn’t be comparing meatloaf to my socks and undies. If that were the case, I probably need to find a new meatloaf recipe, right?

And to top this all off, the portion on the dial where the More Dry/ Less Dry choice needs to be made is labeled “Auto Dry”. Now if it’s Automatic, why do I need to make any choice at all? Shouldn’t the dryer decide on its own if it is truly automatic? But does automatic mean something else entirely? Am I missing something? Maybe Automatic means I don’t have to ever shift which is a good thing because I have no clue what the shift pattern for a Maytag is. Or even how many gears it has…

Here’s what I do know… I like my clothes to be dry. Wet clothes are not appealing to me at all. I have been using the More Dry selection and have yet to burn up anything or set the building on fire, so the dryer must be smart enough to stop before the clothes reach the combustible stage. They don’t even come out smelling singed at all. So ‘More Dry’ seems to be working. Maybe one day I will attempt a small load on ‘Less Dry” and see what happens…

So for now, in my head, I will continue to substitute the word ‘Dry” for the words ‘More Dry’ and ‘Wet’ for the words ‘Less Dry’ whenever I am using the dryer. One of these days, once I’m a Pro, I’ll look back on my dryer ineptitude and laugh…

    ZwebbyVille News:

The meeting with the town upstairs never happened. I waited till the music reached the 'Rave' stage, then went upstairs and knocked on the door... Three times in increasingly irritated knocks. You know... "knock, knock".... "knock, knock, knock"... "KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK". No answer. I know they were home because the dance troupe was practicing their latest routine judging by the footsteps I was hearing. But the music was shut off and not turned on the rest of the evening. I did, however, set the mutt off on a 45 minute barking binge...

The Town Council are in town this evening. We had a great time watching "The Goonies" (old flick, huh) and part of "Turner and Hooch". No Council meeting tonight. They have both been assigned blog assignments to report the status of their particular precincts. Hopefully we will hear those sometime this week.

    Campaign News:

The Campaign is going along well. It has been brought to my attention though that we need a slogan. A catchy slogan has won many a campaign, and, due to the limited funding of this campaign, it will be even more important to get the word out. So please forward all Slogan suggestions to City Hall or in the Comment Section.

Its insane! I noticed this a little while ago when I was doing my laundry. I was thinking, I am actually a man inside because any normal woman would probably know why the settings are like that?? I DONT UNDERSTAND??? Why would you put your clothes in the dryer if you dont want them to dry? Or be kind of dry? Or one pant leg dry and one pant leg kind of dry and the butt wet?
I am glad that you brought this into the open. Hahahah you gave me a much needed laugh..

Thank you for visiting my space and the kid words that you have left.
I do not do laundry at my household, but I can tell by watching TV that if your pants do not get dru=yed all the way you can always hang them out the window on your way to work.
They do it on tv like that and everything that they show on TV must be true... Right?
    LOL
    Have a wonderful day,

I LOVE Jack Johnson.... you have made my day. Oh, to be surfing!
My dryer has a mind of it's own. It dries in normal time every four days. After four days it takes 3x as long to dry. UGH!
Hope to hear from you soon!

The guy that we bought our dryer from said that those settings are more energy efficent then the timer...because you can set it for how heavy or wet the clothes are.  i use the more dry when i forget the clothes in the washer...unless they've been in there for way way too long...then its rewashing time.  that's usually why jesse is in charge of the laundry.
I am currently pondering your slogan...
And I totally understand the situation with the town upstairs.  We had that problem but with people below us...they didnt answer the door either, and then they tattled to the manager that we "walked too heavy"  thankfully the manager liked us better then them ha!
and and!  i'm having jesse pick me up more lasagna!  haha, dinner and lunch!  i'm so spoiled!  its all for the baby, (i keep telling myself this!)
    have a good day!

What they really need is a setting for more hot / less hot for when you're getting your clothes out of the dryer. Cuz (on those commando days especially) you NEED to know how hot the metal on your pants is going to be. Critical inofrmation - ya know?

Oh-er! Our tumble dryers this side of the pond don't have labels, we simply have a timer on them. But, being a chick, I know about such domestic appliances....some fabrics don't need as long as others eg nylon as opposed to cotton. Some fabrics are better off being damp when they're ironed thus the advantage of using the 'less' setting.

Did I scare you then talking about irons? Hey one step at a time dude, one step at a time! lol

hahah... I WISH I had this problem.  You see, when you DRAG all your laundry to the laundromat once a week you get limited selections.

I don't dry all my clothes, only the brave ones, because the settings I'm offered are ~ Not dry ever

~ Marginally dry, but it'll cost you $12

~ Clothes that come out smelling like burned socks

There is NO in between... so  I'm building my muscles by lugging undry laundry home to hang all over my apartment... luckily in thse situations, i live alone...

    Take care!

    Hi Russ,

I might have some helpful info for you on this topic.  MORE dry is to be used for heavier loads...i.e. big sweaters, coats bedding or a big load of jeans.  LESS dry is to be used for lighter things, like a load of t-shirts or underthings or even blouses.  The auto dry you keep seeing is the energy saver and the seting you SHOULD be using.

    Sorry I don't have a witty repsonse for this one...but I do 25 loads of laundry a day!  I am a master!!  :)

I think more dry is for the times when you want to participate in life as a normal human being. I think less dry is for when you're in that mood where you want things to stick to you. I don't know, maybe for those having attachment issues and just really need something to stick with them. And maybe they even name their shorts. But I think it's fantastic of the dryer manufacturer to not discriminate against the mentally ill. They should be applauded for that I think.

I could be wrong though. Less Dry could also be for when the woman, who normally gets stuck with all the laundry, says "honey, this dryer sucks. Look...your uniforms today are alot LESS DRY than usual. I think I need the Super Dryer 3000." at which point he says 'sure dear, here's the credit card'. Another ploy by the dryer manufacturers. They are not dummies.
